About this race
The Clacton 10k starts and finishes on the Greensward, a large green area overlooking the seafront opposite Fourth Avenue in Clacton-on-Sea. The course follows a single lap of both the upper and lower promenades along Clacton seafront, giving runners two different perspectives of the coastline. The route is accurately measured and classed as flat, with one gentle incline and one decline where the course drops down to, and climbs back up from, the lower promenade. The surface is tarmac and concrete throughout, suitable for standard road shoes. Runners pass close to holidaymakers and day trippers along the prom, adding to the lively seafront atmosphere. Held as part of the Clacton Carnival, the race suits both first-timers looking to complete their first event and experienced runners chasing a personal best, with water stations positioned along the route and at the finish.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
