About this race

Bidwells Town & Gown 10K is Cambridge's biggest mass-participation road race, run on closed roads through the heart of the historic city centre. The route passes many of the university's landmark college buildings before heading along the banks of the River Cam and onto the green expanse of Midsummer Common, where the race starts and finishes. The course is flat and fast, run entirely on tarmac city streets, making it a popular target for runners seeking a personal best as well as first-timers and charity fundraisers. Closed roads and marshals line the route throughout, allowing runners to take in Cambridge's historic architecture without traffic. A separate 3K junior race for children aged nine to fifteen is held alongside the main event. Now in its second decade, the race has grown into one of the region's largest 10Ks, raising significant funds each year for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
