About this race

Derby 10 Mile starts and finishes at Derby Arena, the city's velodrome and sports venue just off the A6. The course is designed to be flat and fast, following road and cycle path around the southern edge of Derby with the aim of giving runners a genuine chance at a personal best. Around the six mile mark the route passes Elvaston Castle car park, one of the scenic highlights along an otherwise largely urban and suburban course. Two water stations are positioned along the way to support runners over the full distance. Run entirely on tarmac and closed or controlled roads, the race avoids any significant hills, keeping elevation changes minimal throughout. As part of the wider RunDerby Race Series, the 10 Mile is often used by local and visiting club runners as a genuine time trial ahead of winter training, with chip timing and results published after the event.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
