About this race
The Hardmoors 26.2 Goathland 10k starts and finishes at Goathland Village Hall and, like the longer distances, is entirely self-navigated with no markings on the course, so runners carry a route description and map. The shortest of the three Goathland races, it covers the early part of the wider route network around the village, taking in the valley below Goathland with its footpaths, streams and woodland rather than climbing as far onto the open moor as the half marathon and marathon do. The terrain still mixes stone tracks, grassy and muddy sections, stream crossings and some genuine climbing, giving a proper taste of North York Moors trail running without the sustained high-moor sections found on the longer courses. Starting last of the three, after the marathon and half marathon runners have already set off, it offers a shorter but still testing introduction to the Goathland trails.
