About this race
Lightning Bolt 10K: Race 4 starts and finishes at Langley Burrell Village Hall, just outside Chippenham in Wiltshire, and is run entirely on quiet country lanes around the village. The out-and-back style course uses tarmac roads throughout, avoiding trails or off-road sections, and has built a reputation as one of the fastest 10k courses in the country. The route is essentially flat, with only minimal elevation change over the full distance and no notable climbs, making it well suited to runners targeting personal bests. Pace groups are provided across a wide range of finishing times, helping runners of different abilities judge their effort over the flat lanes. As one race in a five-event series held through the year at the same Langley Burrell venue, the course stays consistent between editions, with the village hall serving as race headquarters for registration, parking and finish-line facilities.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
