About this race
The Supernova 5K starts on Bournemouth Prom and finishes near the Run Bournemouth Hub in the Lower Gardens, run at dusk on the Saturday evening of the Run Bournemouth weekend. The flat, coastal route follows the promenade and takes in Bournemouth Pier, with participants encouraged to wear head torches, glow accessories and fluorescent clothing as daylight fades and the pier lights begin to sparkle. The surface is entirely paved seafront path, making it accessible to walkers, joggers and runners of all abilities, including families taking part together. As one of six events across the Run Bournemouth weekend, it offers a lighter, more relaxed alternative to the following day's Half Marathon and Supersonic 10K, with the emphasis firmly on atmosphere and fun rather than chasing a fast time. The illuminated seafront setting makes for a memorable start to the festival weekend.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
