About this race
The Two Tunnels Return Ticket 10km starts and finishes at Brickfields Park in Bath, an out-and-back route on an officially measured, UK Athletics certified course. Runners head out along the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath before passing through both the 408 metre Devonshire Tunnel and the 1,672 metre Combe Down Tunnel, spending around 8km of the route underground and in the tunnels combined. The course is flat and completely on tarmac throughout, aside from a small amount of grass at the very start and finish, with only a gentle 2% gradient, making it a genuinely fast option for chasing a personal best. A single feast station is provided on course. Unlike the marathon and city half marathon, this route avoids the city centre entirely, focusing instead on the canal towpath and the unique tunnel sections that give the event its name.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
