About this race
The Two Tunnels 5km starts and finishes at Brickfields Park in Bath, an out-and-back route on an officially measured, UK Athletics certified course. Runners head out along the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath and through the 408 metre Devonshire Tunnel into Lyncombe Vale, with around 4km of the route underground or immediately alongside the tunnel entrance. There is a turnaround point just before the entrance to the longer Combe Down Tunnel, after which runners retrace their steps back to Brickfields Park. The course is flat and completely on tarmac throughout, making it a genuinely fast option for a personal best, though there is no drinks station on this shorter distance. It's a buggy-friendly route, giving families and newer runners a taste of the event's famous underground tunnel running in a manageable, approachable distance.

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind.
