About this race
The Bury 10K starts and finishes close to The Rock shopping centre in Bury town centre, Greater Manchester. From the start, the route heads out on closed roads through Tottington, passing Tottington High School on Laurel Street, before joining the scenic, traffic-free Kirklees Trail (Tottington Lines) that cuts through open countryside on the edge of town. The course then continues along Woodhill Road before turning back towards the town centre for the finish. Run on a mix of tarmac roads and the flat, off-road trail section, the profile combines flat stretches with some gentle undulations, making it a fair test for both experienced 10K runners chasing a fast time and newer runners taking on the distance for the first time. The event has grown steadily in popularity since its launch in 2016, with a lively Event Village and finish-line atmosphere in the heart of Bury.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
