About this race

The Broadway Marathon starts and finishes on Broadway High Street in the village of Broadway, Worcestershire, in the northern Cotswolds. The 26.5 mile course is laid out as two loops in a figure-of-eight, with the route climbing from the start up to Broadway Tower for views across the Vale of Evesham, before crossing to Snowshill and Stanway. The marathon then splits from the half marathon route and continues on to Winchcombe, passing Sudeley Castle before tackling the final big climb up onto the escarpment. After a few miles along the top, the course descends and rejoins the half marathon route for gently undulating fields and woodland back to Broadway, repeating the full loop a second time. The majority of the route is trail or unpaved track, with only minor road sections, making it a genuinely hilly and often muddy tour of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
