About this race

The Cornish Marathon starts and finishes at Pensilva, running out on closed and quiet roads across the rolling countryside of East Cornwall and the edge of Bodmin Moor. Billed as Cornwall's only all-road marathon, the route passes a string of local landmarks including Golitha Falls, Colliford Lake, Dozmary Pool, Jamaica Inn and the ancient King Doniert's Stones, taking in wooded river valleys, open moorland fringe and small rural lanes. The course is entirely tarmac but far from flat, with sustained climbing across its 26.2 miles giving it a reputation as a tough, hilly test rather than a fast road marathon. Fields are capped and the event, organised by East Cornwall Harriers as part of the Cornish Grand Prix series, typically sells out well in advance. A 6.5 hour cut-off and staged checkpoints support runners across this scenic but demanding rural loop.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
