About this race
The Three Trails Half Marathon starts and finishes at Westerlands in Graffham, near Petworth in West Sussex, and covers about 13.1 miles, which the organisers say is not an exact distance. The route follows three long-distance trails, the Serpent Trail, New Lipchis Way and South Downs Way, together with trails at the foot of the Downs, and has a single checkpoint. From Graffham the course heads north-west through woodland and then west to Heyshott, mostly on flat ground. At Heyshott the route turns south and climbs onto the South Downs Way, which it follows east along a high ridge for several kilometres before dropping back down to the lowland trails. A final flat section leads north-east back to Graffham. The terrain is a mix of dirt trail and tracks, with only a small amount of tarmac.
