About this race
The EnduranceLife Gower Marathon starts and finishes at Oxwich Bay, covering a substantial loop of the Gower Peninsula's coast and countryside within this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The course runs entirely on trail, taking in clifftop paths, open moorland, woodland, sand dunes and several of Gower's well-known beaches, with the terrain shifting throughout between firm grass, soft sand and rocky coastal sections. With significantly more climbing than the shorter distances, the route is genuinely mountainous in character for a marathon, built around sustained undulating cliff sections rather than any long flat stretches. It carries UTMB qualifying status, reflecting its status as one of the tougher marathon-distance trail events in the UK. Starting early in the morning alongside the ultra, well before the half marathon and 10k set off, it gives runners the whole day to complete a demanding, scenic circuit of the Gower coastline.
