About this race

The Warrington Running Festival 5k starts and finishes at the Golden Gates of Warrington Town Hall, on a closed-road course through the town centre. The route is flat, with just around 8 metres of elevation gain over the full distance, making it an accessible option for beginners and casual runners as well as those chasing a fast time. Because roads are closed for the event, the course is free of traffic throughout, taking in the historic streets around the town centre before returning to the finish. Marshals are positioned along the route to guide runners and cheer them on, with distance markers along the way. The race finishes back at the Golden Gates, close to the lively Bank Park event village, with food vendors and entertainment for runners and spectators alike. It's a great entry point into the wider Warrington Running Festival weekend.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
