About this race
The Celtic Trail Marathon is a circular route starting and finishing at Dare Valley Country Park, Aberdare. The course heads west along high-level trails of the Coed Morgannwg Way, passing hidden reservoirs and the high ground near Craig y Llyn, then climbs onto the Rhigos mountain range. From there it drops through forest tracks and single track towards Glyncorrwg in the Afan Forest, the southernmost point of the route, before climbing back up through the forest and returning east across the mountain. The route also includes a loop through hillside woodland near Cwmaman, close to Dare Valley, before the finish. The route is mostly wide forest track, with some single track and sharp climbs, and the profile is hilly with long descents. The course is fully marked, with views across the Brecon Beacons National Park.
