About this race
The Druid's Challenge is a three-day, 83 mile ultra along the Ridgeway National Trail, often described as the oldest roadway in the UK. Day one starts at Tring Rugby Club in Hertfordshire and passes Ivinghoe Beacon on the way to Lord Williams's Lower School in Thame. Day two continues to Didcot Leisure Centre, and day three runs on into Wiltshire to finish near Swindon. The route follows a broad, mostly trail track across the high ground of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with rolling chalk downland and ancient monuments including long barrows, round barrows, Iron Age hill forts and chalk horse figures. The course is unmarked beyond the Ridgeway waymarkers, so runners navigate between checkpoints. Daily stages are roughly 27 to 29 miles, and single-day entries are also available.
