About this race

The Midwinter Mortimer Trail Ultra is a point-to-point route of about 30 miles from the entrance archway of Ludlow Castle to Kington, following the Mortimer Trail through the Marches. From Ludlow the route heads south-west across a succession of hills and ridges, crossing the valleys of the Teme and Lugg and passing Mary Knoll Valley, High Vinnals and Orleton Common. It continues on to Croft Ambrey, crosses the Arrow valley and passes Wapley hill fort before finishing in Kington. The terrain is a mix of trail, field and road through forests, limestone tops and pastures, and the course is hilly throughout, with repeated strenuous climbs and descents. The event is self-navigated, and a minibus from Kington car park to the start is available for an additional fee.
