About this race
The Carsington Water 10k takes place on trail paths around Carsington Water, a reservoir in the Derbyshire Dales between Wirksworth and Kniveton. Runners start near Millfields car park and cover almost one full loop of the reservoir before finishing at the event village. The course follows the well-established trail circling the water, staying close to the shoreline for much of the route and taking in views across the reservoir towards the surrounding hills. The terrain is off-road and undulating throughout, with gentle climbs and descents rather than any single major hill, reflecting the natural contours of the lakeside path. Each kilometre is marked with distance flags, and marshals are positioned around the course to guide runners and offer encouragement. The event has built a loyal following for its scenic setting, finishing back at a lively event village with food, drink and a themed medal for every finisher.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
