About this race

The TCS London Marathon follows a point-to-point road course from south-east London to The Mall, with runners starting from three separate start lines that merge in Woolwich just before Mile 3. The opening miles are a net downhill on wide roads, before the course turns west through Charlton, Greenwich and Deptford and loops around the Cutty Sark. It continues through Rotherhithe and along Jamaica Road in Bermondsey to Tower Bridge, crossed shortly before halfway. After reaching 13 miles the route heads east along The Highway to Westferry, circling through Mudchute, Docklands and Canary Wharf before returning west through Limehouse, Tower Hill and along the Victoria Embankment. Runners turn right at Westminster Bridge with about a mile to go, pass Parliament Square and Birdcage Walk, and turn at Buckingham Palace onto The Mall. The course is mostly flat or gently undulating.
