About this race
The North Chilterns 50K is a trail ultra that starts and finishes at Putteridge Bury on the edge of Luton. The route is a loop through the North Chilterns that follows the Chiltern Way towards Lilley, then runs out to Warden Hill and the Barton Hills, through Pirton, and over the climb of Pegsdon Hill before returning to Putteridge Bury. The course is mostly off-road, on dirt trails and paths, with a smaller proportion of paved lanes. The first part of the course stays on high ground, before dropping to low-lying ground through the middle section, then climbing back into the hills for a rolling second half with ridgeline sections and several viewpoints. The route is fully marked with orange arrows and ribbons, with four aid stations along the way.
