UK Ultra Winter on the Downs 50k

The Winter on the Downs 50k is a single-loop route starting and finishing at Plumpton Racecourse near Lewes in East Sussex. From the racecourse the route heads south onto the South Downs, running along trails and tracks on the western side of the Lewes area towards Falmer and Stanmer. It then turns east past Iford and Rodmell, continuing along the downland tracks towards Alciston and Berwick before swinging back north past Firle. The loop returns by way of Lewes, leaving the town to the north-west before reaching the racecourse. The surface is 99% trail, a mix of grass trails, farm tracks, woodland paths and chalk paths. The course is hilly, with rolling downland and a few steep climbs, and has four aid stations. Winter conditions can bring wind, rain and mud.
