About this race
The South Downs Trail Run 16.5km starts at Goodwood Racecourse in the South Downs National Park, near Chichester, and shares much of its character with the longer half marathon course. Runners follow forest fire roads, bridleways and single track tree-lined trails, with sections skirting the edge of Levin Down and views across the South Downs towards Chichester Harbour and the Isle of Wight. The route is entirely off-road and rolling, with a steady mix of climbs and descents rather than any single major ascent, and is rated by organisers as a moderate challenge. The course returns to Goodwood for the finish, where the racecourse setting gives the event a distinctive backdrop. Canicross runners are welcome and start five minutes after the main field. It is part of the Run Rebel trail run series and sits between the half marathon and the shorter 12k option in both distance and difficulty.
