UK Ultra Winter on the Downs 55mile

The Winter on the Downs 55 Miles is a single loop starting and finishing at Plumpton Racecourse near Lewes, within the South Downs National Park. The route climbs onto the Downs and heads south-west towards the edge of Brighton before running east along the downland north of Newhaven. It continues towards the coast between Seaford and Eastbourne, reaching the clifftops near the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head, then returns north across the Downs to Lewes and the racecourse. The surface is 99% trail, a mix of grass trails, farm tracks, woodland paths and chalk paths. The profile is rolling hills with some longer, steeper climbs, and eight aid stations support runners on the loop. Winter conditions on the Downs can bring wind, rain, fog and mud.
