About this race
The Winter on the Downs 100 Miles is a single loop starting and finishing at Plumpton Racecourse near Lewes, within the South Downs National Park. The route heads west across the Downs, passing north of Brighton and continuing towards Storrington in West Sussex at the western end of the loop. It then returns east along the Downs above Brighton and Lewes, past Newhaven, before reaching the coast between Seaford and Eastbourne near the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. The final stretch runs back inland across the Downs to Plumpton. The surface is 99% trail, a mix of grass trails, farm tracks, woodland paths and chalk paths. The profile is rolling hills with some longer, steeper climbs, and twelve aid stations support runners over the 35-hour cut-off. Winter conditions can bring wind, rain, fog and mud.
